National Alliance:  What do we need in education more than anything?

JC: We need a culture shift - to build innovation and iteration into our practices, so we can continuously improve what we do for our students.

National Alliance: What does a prepared student who is ready to thrive in the workforce over the next decade look like?

JC: A student who is a lifelong learner who continues to develop their problem solving, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

National Alliance: How do we help students discover their passion and fulfill their potential?

JC: Stop asking what they want to be when they grow up and instead ask them what problem they want to solve and how they want to solve it.

National Alliance: If you were a presidential candidate, what would be the top 3 priorities in your education plan?

JC:  1. Replace test-based assessments with critical skills assessments;  2. Pay teachers a living wage; 3. Give schools more autonomy.
